Russian Volunteer projects can become an effective part of the Russian federal forest conservation project. As EcoTourism Expert came to know, this opinion was expressed by the participants of the meeting on forest conservation, which took place in the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. The meeting was held to discuss the initiative of an amateur wood grover, the creator of the «Zelenograd Cedars» eco-farm, the head of the Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization “Cedars of Russia” Ivan Sanzharov.
Following the meeting, the head of the department, Dmitry Kobylkin, expressed confidence that systematic measures to organize forest reproduction and projects such as «Cedars of Russia» will help in promoting forest conservation in Russia, says the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Meanwhile, the head of the Federal Forestry Agency, Sergei Anoprienko, instructed the management of the Federal Forestry Agency “Roslesozashita” [Forest Conservation] to provide volunteers with methodological assistance in compliance with the law. He also noted that “it is important to establish cooperation between timber merchants, subsoil users, who are obliged to restore the forest taken from nature, and entrepreneurs who are already ready to provide planting material for these operations.”
The Federal Forestry Agency also explained that the landscaping of urban areas - parks, alleys, squares, schools, playgrounds and others - is a process aimed at creating green zone and introducing plants that are not typical for a particular region. However, the law on the restoration of forests on the lands of the forest fund is more demanding and requires the use of area-specific seeds tested for sowing and so on.
Moreover, the sides discussed the possible participation of the «Cedars of Russia» project in compensatory reforestation in a number of regions and the cultivation of planting material for all-Russian public tree planting campaigns.
The «Zelenograd Cedars» eco-farm in the Kaliningrad Region specializes in growing planting material of Siberian cedar pine, Korean cedar pine and other rare tree species.
Cedar crops are introduced species for this region and are grown on a trial basis to gain experience in growing highly productive biologically resistant pine plantations.
In 2019, the “Cedars of Russia” grew and donated 40,000 cedar seedlings to 17 regions. Prior to this, a private initiative had been implemented at the local level in Sakhalin for 9 years.
