Shiva, a female leopard living in the Caucasus Leopard Recovery Center, has given birth to two cubs.
According to WWF Russia, this is the first successfully obtained offspring.
The center said that the female and the cubs are doing well. The sex of the cubs can only be recognized after three months. At the same time, specialists will make all the necessary measurements and study of young leopard cubs.
The program for the restoration of the Central Asian leopard in the Caucasus is being implemented by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia with the participation of the Sochi National Park, the Caucasian Nature Reserve, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF Russia), the Institute of Ecology and Evolution named after A.N. Severtsov of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPEE RAS), Institute of Ecology of Mountain Territories named after V.I. A.K. Tembotov of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IEGT RAS), the Moscow Zoo, with the assistance of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA). Leopard monitoring is carried out with the financial support of VTB Bank.
