The Turkish parliament passed a bill requiring operators to pay a tourist tax of 2% from the cost of accommodation from the beginning of the next fiscal year, according to the Association of Russian Tour Operators. Unlike the worldwide practice, the money will go to the state budget, and not to the municipalities.
From April 1, 2020, it will be levied on accommodation in hotels, boarding houses, holiday villages, guest houses, as well as apartments and boutique hotels, and there are no discounts for children and senior citizens. The exception is state guest houses.
The new fee for each person depends on the type of a hotel in which they are staying and will be determined directly by its stardom and international rating. Thus, a night in a five-star hotel will cost about 18 liras (200 roubles), in a four-star hotel - about 12 liras (133 roubles) per person per day. In three-star hotels will have to pay 9 liras (100 roubles).
The accommodation tax will apply not only to tourist accommodation, but also to food, entertainment and other services. It is planned to be introduced in April 2020, and its amount will be 1% of the price of all services offered. According to the Russian association, the introduction of the tax will not affect the cost of holidays in Turkey next year, as many hoteliers have already put up offers for sale for the next summer. But in a year, according to the data, all hotels in Turkey will have to increase the cost of living by at least 2%.
