Myanmar has become the fastest growing tourist destination in the world, having increased its tourist arrivals by 40.2% compared to 2018. Honorable second and third places went to, according to the report of the UNWTO, Puerto Rico (31.2 percent) and Iran (27.9 percent).
According to experts of the Myanmar Tourism Federation, such a breakthrough was made possible by the introduction of new rules that facilitate the arrival of tourists from a number of countries. Visa-free travel is open to the citizens of Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau and some countries of Southeast Asia. Russians, as well as citizens of India, mainland China, Australia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Spain and Switzerland receive visas upon arrival.
Although Myanmar has tremendous tourism potential and attractions in many areas, much of the industry remains to be developed.
