The press service of the Moscow Zoo announced a new addition to the capybara family. Kuzma and Malaya had three cubs. This is the second offspring of the couple. The firstborn moved to the zoo in Yekaterinburg last year.
“Zoologists will be able to determine the sex of small capybaras only after 2-3 months. Now they are trying not to disturb the kids and not to disturb the parents once again, so that the large family feels comfortable,” as per the report.
Capybaras babies show independence almost from the first days. They quickly get to their feet and even begin to eat grass and twigs. However, most of the diet is still breast milk. Gradually, little capybaras will learn to swim. In the meantime, the cubs approach the water with caution.
The father of the Kuzma family, despite his cowardly disposition, actively protects the kids and can even scare away strangers with barking. The mother shows the cubs where to go and with whom to communicate.
