The press service of the governor and the government of the Kaluga region reported that the section of the floodplain of the Protva River between the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the Pafnutev-Borovsky Monastery was included in the list of specially protected natural areas of regional significance.
The natural monument is located near Borovsk. In this area there are numerous well-groomed springs with equipped fonts, a pond and an artificial waterfall.
The valley is home to 254 species of vascular plants, as well as 24 species of fish, 71 species of birds and 16 species of mammals. Among them there are also Red Book ones: the straight walker, the shadow boletus, the white stork and the river otter.
