The Institute of Archeology of the All-Russian Academy of Sciences will help implement the project. Specialists will study the archaeological heritage sites in Abrau-Durso.
“Today, the tower is a ruined structure, where fragments of amphoras and household items of the Greeks who lived there are found. Based on the preserved details, scientists determined that the tower belonged to the signal and watchdog system of the southeastern part of the Asian Bosporus of the 1st century BC,” the Sochi administration reported.
Archaeological excavations will begin in the summer of 2022. Research will help to study the object in more detail, to form an idea of the life of that period, after which a new display object will be opened to tourists. It is planned that the tower will be included in the Abrau-Durso hiking route project, as well as in the program of wine tours with an emphasis on the history of the area.
Today in the Krasnodar Territory there are more than 700 tourist attractions, 22 of them are of an archaeological nature.
