At the same time, the start at the Grand Prix for the Mercedes pilot did not go well: from the fourth position he quickly dropped to the seventh, significantly inferior to the leader Lando Norris from the McLaren team. The rain decided everything. At some point, Norris lost control and flew off the track, returning to the race, he eventually finished seventh.
The second place in Sochi was taken by Red Bull pilot Max Verstappen. The three leaders were closed by the Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz. The attention of the audience was riveted on the Russian racer Nikita Mazepin. For him, the stage in Sochi was the first in his career as a Formula 1 driver.
Considering that due to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the anthem of Russia did not sound at the start, everyone remembered the helmet of the Russian pilot. It was decorated with the names of all Russian Olympic and Paralympic medalists in Tokyo. As a result, Nikita was two laps behind the leader and took 18th place.
