The Rosa Khutor resort in Sochi has become a leader in the implementation of the all-Russian program of therapeutic sports for children with special health capabilities, the League of Dreams.
During the 2020/21 winter season, 1,449 alpine skiing sessions for children with disabilities were held at the resort.
144 young athletes with various diseases, including cerebral palsy, autism, visual and hearing impairments, as well as Down's syndrome, took part in the training. As a result of training, they demonstrate a positive dynamics in the development of motor functions, emotional sphere and achieve serious success in rehabilitation.
“Due to the fact that the winter was more snowy and there were fewer quarantine measures, we managed to increase the number of program participants in the country. The number of sports facilities where our programs are being implemented is growing from year to year. In the past winter season for children with disabilities went to 54 sports facilities in different regions of Russia. 12,273 therapeutic sports sessions were held for 2,261 children. The indisputable leader was the Rosa Khutor resort in Sochi, where 1449 classes were held. Almost half of the training sessions were funded by the charitable funds of Vladimir Potanin and the mountain resort,” said Natalya Belogolovtseva, head of the Dream League program.
The Dream League therapeutic sports program has been implemented at the Rosa Khutor resort in Sochi since 2018. After the end of the skiing season, roller skates take over from alpine skiing. Already in June, the Rosa Khutor resort will host a special sports session for adolescents with special health capabilities from different regions of the country. For 12 days, children and their parents will have not only sports activities, but will also be hiking trails in the mountains and have educational excursions.
"League of Dreams" is an innovative social program, thanks to which people with disabilities are involved in complex coordination sports that were considered inaccessible to them: alpine skiing, rollerball sports, team game sports (basketball, volleyball, football, curling on the grass, badminton, etc. .) The project was launched in January 2014 by actor Sergei Belogolovtsev and his wife Natalia Belogolovtseva. The unique rehabilitation program has already helped thousands of children and adults. Alpine skiing using a special method with the help of trained instructors can speed up the process of treatment, rehabilitation and socialization of people with disabilities. The main objective of the program is to increase the number of centers and regions of presence in order to increase the availability of therapeutic sports. Today, the League of Dreams includes already 41 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, 57 ski slopes, 65 roller sport centers, more than 800 professional instructors, more than 10,000 participants throughout the country aged from 3 to 82 years.
