Over the past summer, the Elbrus resort received more than 230 thousand guests - this is a third more than in the same season last year, said Rustam Tapaev, deputy general director of the unified institute for the development of the North Caucasus "Kavkaz.RF".
The resort also broke its daily attendance record this summer.
“It has always been believed that Elbrus is a winter resort. So in August we had more people than in January or February. And if we already determine some kind of seasonality, then we can say that Elbrus is generally a summer resort,” Tapaev said at a press conference in TASS.
He noted that Kavkaz.RF is developing many different interesting directions at the resort - eco-trails are being created, horseback riding, jeep tours and event events are being held.
According to Tapaev, one of the most important tourist destinations on Elbrus is climbing.
“We have now made a path that goes almost to the very peak, so that climbers and people in general who climb Elbrus will have an easier, more comfortable and safer time,” he said.
An increase in the tourist flow was also noted at the Arkhyz resort - twice as many tourists vacationed here last summer than during the same period last year.
According to Tapaev, Kavkaz.RF is observing a new trend - tourists increasingly began to spend their summer holidays in the mountains. This is not least due to the expansion of infrastructure, he believes.
“A very important area is eco-trails. We are now making the most modern eco-trails in Russia, we can say with confidence. Equipment is being shipped right now, and we will soon hold a small festival at the Veduchi resort in the Chechen Republic and on Elbrus. These will be very beautifully designed, marked eco-trails with bridges, passages, benches, and toilets. Everything will be done very environmentally friendly and in a modern way. We invite everyone to come and walk along the eco-trails,” Tapaev said.
