The new ecological and historical trail "Tankhoyskaya Verst", which connects the railway station Tankhoy with the visit-center "Baikal Zapovedny", was opened for tourists. Its length is about one verst (8 km), while every couple of hundred meters on the trail there are stands with facts about the nature and history of the coast of South Baikal.
The unusual trail is a joint project of Russian Railways, the Zapovedniki eco-center and the Baikalsky nature reserve. The natural route along the coast of Lake Baikal is equipped with a wooden deck. In addition to the beauties of the local nature, it will show the history of the village of Tankhoi at the beginning of the 20th century, when this small settlement played an important role in the development of railway transport in Siberia and became one of the elements of the "golden buckle" of the Trans-Siberian Railway.
“This project was conceived as the final piece of the route network. The Baikal Reserve in Tankhoy has eco-trails in the vicinity of the estate, one of which leads to the coast of Lake Baikal. The new trail loops the tourist route from the estate of the reserve through the visitor center on the shore of Lake Baikal to the railway station Tankhoi. It will be convenient for both guests and local residents,” said Natalya Danilina, director of the Zapovedniki eco-center.
