The first non-scuba diving competitions "Putorana Depth - 2023" will be held on August 31 - September 3 at Lama fjord Lake, in the northern part of the Putorana plateau.
The championship is jointly organized by the Freediving Federation and the Norilsk Development Agency (ARN) with the support of Norilsk Nickel.
The strongest freedivers of the world level will come to the competition: Guinness Book of Records record holders, world and European champions, members of the Russian national team and multiple winners of the national championships. Among them is Alexey Molchanov, a 31-time world champion in freediving and a record holder in ice diving in Lake Baikal.
The festival program includes lectures and master classes from freediving gurus, training dives and trekking trips to the Putorana plateau.
The competitions will be held in two key disciplines: free diving with breath-holding on a rope and diving in depth in fins with constant weight.
"It is planned to set records for breath–holding diving in cold water at the "Putoran Depth", - said Maxim Mironov, director of the ARN. – Lake Lama was not chosen by chance as the venue of the competition: its depth is more than 300 meters, at a depth of ten meters the water temperature is plus two degrees Celsius."
