Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov spoke about measures to develop tourism in the North Caucasus. He spoke at a meeting dedicated to this topic, which was held by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Derbent.
“Inhabitants of Russia, when traveling around the country, are increasingly choosing the North Caucasus. The Okrug has become the absolute leader in terms of tourism growth,” said Reshetnikov, quoted in a message posted on the website of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development.
According to him, equipped hiking trails will appear at the Elbrus and Veduchi resorts next year.
"Kavkaz.RF is already preparing the concept of Russia's first National Caucasian Trail, along which it will be possible to walk from the Caspian to the Black Sea along the Caucasus Range," the report says.
As Reshetnikov noted, ski resorts have been actively developing in the North Caucasus in recent years. Kavkaz.RF Corporation and residents of special economic zones have already invested more than 52 billion rubles in the engineering and ski infrastructure of Arkhyz, Elbrus, Veduchi, Mamison. By 2030, it is planned to double the length of the slopes and 2.5 times increase the number of lifts.
The Minister also spoke about the potential of the North Caucasus Federal District for the development of beach tourism. “The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, together with the Republic of Dagestan, developed the concept of the Caspian coastal cluster. Its implementation is expected in stages, it is planned to start from the Derbent region. More than 100 objects will be placed on 200 hectares: hotels for 5,000 beds, sports, cultural, entertainment facilities, a harbor for boats and yachts.
