The anchor, which came at the disposal of the museum, was previously found in the Baltic Sea at a depth of 25 meters by scientists from the Atlantic Branch of the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who were carrying out a program to study the seabed.

Scientists took soil samples, studied the bottom with the help of an echo sounder, which helped to discover the rarity. This was announced on its website by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Kaliningrad Region.

The operation to extract the anchor took several hours.

“We examined the anchor and came to the conclusion that it “came” to us from the 19th century. Such designs could be used on frigates. Anchor weight - 500 kg. Presumably, the former owners simply “lost” it. This could happen, for example, during a storm,” said Alexei Shutkin, chief specialist on the fleet of the Museum of the World Ocean.
