The Nornickel program “Clean Norilsk” can be integrated into the public federal project “Clean Arctic”. This proposal was made at a meeting of the Public Chamber of Russia by the vice-president of the company Andrei Grachev. According to the top manager of the company, «the projects are united both in their goal-setting and in the logic of their actions. And there will be a double effect from coordinated actions».
The large-scale program "Clean Norilsk" was launched by Nornickel in April 2021. More than 40 billion rubles have been allocated for the sanitary cleaning of industrial zones. In the short northern spring-summer season, almost 1 million square meters of land has been cleared of rubbish. For the big cleaning, the company purchased 121 units of equipment, of which 110 have already entered Norilsk. According to Andrey Grachev, «87 dilapidated buildings have been dismantled». As a result, 247,000 tons of construction waste and 37,000 tons of scrap metal were collected and removed.
The "Clean Arctic" project, aimed at creating a unified program for cleaning up the Arctic territories, belongs to the captain of the icebreaker "50 Let Pobedy», Dmitry Lobusov and the captain of the icebreaker, Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation, Gennady Antokhin. The initiative was supported by the Public Chamber of Russia, the All-Russian public organization "Green Patrol" and the All-Russian Popular Front.
The "Clean Arctic" project was launched on July 11 with a clean-up day in Norilsk, attended by local residents with their families. On August 2, the first group of Clean Arctic volunteers flew to the Arctic zone of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. 33 people from 12 regions of the country were trained at the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the next day they started work. Thus, the Krasnoyarsk Territory became the first region to host Arctic volunteers.
