Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs who are involved in the development of ecotourism in Karelia will receive money back for part of the costs for creating the appropriate infrastructure, as announced by Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Republic Yanina Svidskaya. She explained that such an opportunity is provided as part of amendments made to national legislation adopted in September 2019.

“We have introduced such a measure of support as rewards for the costs of those tourism organizations, entrepreneurs engaged in travel services, to make up for the costs they spent on restoring the ecological infrastructure,” Svidskaya was quoted as saying by the television channel Russia 24. Karelia. She drew an example of ecological trails as a means of ecotourism infrastructure development.

“These are ecological trails, for example, and the development of these ecological trails. As you know, many of the objects already have such ecological trails, for their improvement money is required and business has already done such spendings,” the deputy minister explained.

The amendments also include compensation for the cost of tourist buses and the restoration of cultural heritage sites.
