Thailand will likely introduce a tourist fee for international visitors. With its idea of enhancing its travel plans constantly, Thailand is making all efforts to boost tourism in the country and lure more visitors.
The country plans to charge a tourist fee of THB 300 from June, for international travellers who want to visit the country. Reportedly, the money raised will be used to develop tourist destinations and support visitors involved in accidents.
Tourism is one of the most essential sectors of Thailand’s economy, which contributed around 12% of the GDP of Thailand before the pandemic. Reports suggest that the tourist fee collected will not only help towards developing tourist spots within the country but will also help those travellers who are in need.
Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn added that fees won't be collected from foreigners with work permits and border passes, further adding that Thailand expects 25 million tourist arrivals this year.
