The flight is scheduled for July 20th. This was told by Alexey Kotchemasov, Deputy Director of construction of the Dokstroy contractor company.
- We have to land the plane on the runway, it has to pass along the taxiway and stand on a small platform, - Kotchemasov noted.
Construction and installation work at Sukhum Airport should be completed on December 1, after which the runway will have to be certified. Sukhumi Airport, built in the 1960s, is located 18kilometers from the city. During the Soviet period, the air harbor terminal served up to five thousand passengers per dayin summer and up to a thousand in winter.
In 1993, it was closed due to the military conflict. Eight billion rubles will be spent on the restoration of the airport. The Russian company Infrastructural Development LLC plans to restore a 3,100-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway, a taxiway, and will also install equipment for receiving aircraft. The capacity of the renovated airport will be at least 1300 passengers per hour.
