As per Sri Lanka's new COVID-19 guidelines, all tourists travelling to the island nation will now be required to carry their vaccination cards, whereas unvaccinated travellers will be required to carry a negative PCR report, which has been obtained 72 hours prior to arrival in the country.
Revealing more about the revised guideline, Sri Lankan authorities have added that they will keep a close watch on any new COVID-19-related developments in consultation with the health authorities.
Earlier, Sri Lanka discontinued the mandatory requirement of producing the COVID-19 vaccination certificate for international travellers on December 7, 2022. The requirement of producing a pre-boarding or on-arrival negative COVID-19 test (PCR/Rapid Antigen Test) (RAT) was also removed.
With regard to tourism, the Sri Lankan tourism industry also suffered a huge blow because of adverse travel advisories that were issued by most countries in the context of the unprecedented economic crisis and the street protests last year that led to a change of government in the island nation.
Since April 25, tourists arriving in the city of Doge are required to present an "entrance ticket" in the form of a QR code at the points of entry, which can be purchased online at a single price of 5 euros
