The Spanish tourism industry fears the loss of Russian tourists due to the situation around Ukraine.

Before the pandemic, up to 1.3 million Russians spent their holidays in Spain every year. Despite the fact that their share was only about 1.5% of the total number of foreign tourists, Russian citizens brought to Spain about 1.4 billion euros annually.

Russians' visits to the country have sharply decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past two years, the share of Russian citizens in the total flow of tourists in Spain was only 0.4-0.8%, and the profit from their stay was 228 million euros.

Catalonia is the favorite holiday destination for Russians in Spain. In 2021, more than 56,000  tourists from Russia visited the region against 830,000 in 2019, equinoxmagazine.fr reports.
