The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Saylyugemsky National Park have discovered a new snow leopard habitat on the South Chuisky Ridge, Altai Mountains, WWF-Russia reports.
The animals were recorded by automatic cameras. A female with two cubs, which will begin their independent life in the fall, and two single snow leopards, whose sex cannot be determined, moved to the South Chuisky Ridge.
Previously, the South Chuisky Ridge was not considered an important snow leopard habitat in the Altai Republic. The animals were discovered by local residents, herders, who live nearby. Volunteer shepherds who help biologists are participants in a special WWF project and the Salyugem National Park, which is supported by Pernod Ricard.
This year the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Salyugem National Park will analyze cases of snow leopard attacks on livestock in the Gorno-Altai Republic to help cattle breeders and protect herders' livestock. The project will be supported by the World Around You Foundation of Siberian Wellness Corporation.
