The mayor of the municipality, which includes the locality of Siurana in the south of Catalonia, refused to include it in the list of the most beautiful villages in Spain.

The official and local residents, who number only about 30 people, fear that the adoption of this title will cause a real tourist tsunami.

The village is already known as a popular destination among travelers. During August, it was visited by at least 1800 tourists.

Siruana, located at an altitude of 500 m above sea level, is called the "pearl among the rocks". The locality is a popular place for rock climbing and hiking.

The association "The most beautiful villages of Spain" proposed to include Siurana in the list of recommended tourist attractions. But, despite the potential financial benefits associated with this, local residents primarily rely on maintaining their usual way of life.

"We want high-quality tourism, not an excessive tourist load," said Salvador Salvado, mayor of Cornudella de Montsant.
