The press service of the national park announced the results of the air survey in the specially protected natural areas of the "Land of the Leopard". Experts recorded 28,000 deer, which are the basis of the food supply for the Far Eastern leopard and the Amur tiger.
In the past, the number of deer decreased due to hunting, fires and the economic development of Primorye. However, with the advent of the "Land of the Leopard", their population began to grow, due to which the number of leopards also increases.
"According to the latest aerial survey, today over 28,000 spotted deer live throughout the Russian range of the Amur leopard in southwestern Primorye. This is 21% more than in 2019," the message says.
The aerial survey was carried out in the Land of the Leopard National Park, its buffer zone, as well as the oldest nature reserve in the Far East, Kedrovaya Pad, and neighboring territories. The study covered an area of more than 571 thousand hectares.
