Hurricane Alex, which raged a few days ago, caused great damage to the French department of the Alpes-Maritimes, where the Alpha Wolves Natural Park was destroyed due to flooding. In the disaster, seven Canadian black wolves fled. They are currently on the wanted list. According to the latest reports, at least one wolf is already dead.
“At least one wolf is already dead. [...] Seven black Canadian wolves are wanted,” said the French Bureau for Biodiversity (OFB).
On Tuesday morning, two agents from the French Bureau of Biodiversity and a fire veterinarian flew by helicopter to try to find the animals, some of which were spotted by witnesses "between Saint-Martin-Vesuby and Boreon."
According to the agency, "not everything has been destroyed, although the park has suffered great damage in some places."
“The enclosures are still intact; healthy wolves and chamois live in them. We were able to feed them, and they are calm,” the OFB press service said.
Alpha Park is home to thirteen wolves from three different packs: Canadian wolves, Alaska white wolves and Central European gray wolves.
