Due to the early spring in Russia, 2.5 times more forest was restored by the beginning of April than last year over the same period. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, in the framework of the federal project "Forest Conservation" of the national project "Ecology" trees have already been planted on an area of more than 5.2 thousand hectares. This is 2.5 times more than for the same period last year, it said.
Forest restoration work started earlier this year due to the early arrival of spring in some regions of the country. Mainly in the Central and Southern Federal Districts. Foresters restored 182 hectares of forest stands in the North Caucasus.
With the help of the program under the federal project “Forest Conservation”, Russia intends to strike a balance between how much forest in the country is lost and restored on average annually. By 2024, it is planned to plant 1.5 million hectares of forest per year.
