The authorities of the Komi Republic, Russia, created a new national park "Koygorodsky." The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, as reported on the website of the government of the Russian Federation.
The area of the national park will be 56,700,032 hectares. This unique territory hosts about 100 protected plant species and more than 20 species of animals that are listed in the Red Books of Russia and the Komi Republic. In particular, fish - grayling, spirlin; amphibians - Siberian coal-toothed; fish-shaped - the northern lampreys; birds - common pern, spotted eagle, eagle owl; mammals - European mink, weasel, wild reindeer. This is one of the most untouched forest areas of the European North of Russia, practically unaffected by economic activity.
The national park, located on the lands of the forest fund of the Koygorodsky and Priluzsky districts of Komi, will be managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia.
The creation of the national park “Koygorodsky” will contribute to the development of nature-oriented, educational and sports tourism, as well as create additional opportunities for the development of ecological tourism.
