During a meeting with his Maltese counterpart Evarist Bartolo, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the resumption of regular flights between the countries.

"We are interested in developing our dialogue, in creating conditions for contacts between people. It is very symbolic that since May 25, Aeroflot announced the resumption of regular flights with Malta," the Russian Foreign Minister said.

Lavrov said that despite the difficult situation in international affairs, the persisting epidemiological restrictions, our countries are interested in developing relations in various fields, including at the regional level.

"We agreed to promote the implementation of plans regarding inter-parliamentary contacts. We will contribute to the expansion of trade and economic ties, including through the intensification of work along the lines of relevant departments, economic operators and along the lines of Russian regions," he explained.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta, Evarist Bartolo, he was pleased with the discussion of bilateral relations and their prospects.

"I am very glad that we are improving our relations in trade and tourism. We can achieve more and will work on it. There is an agreement that we plan to sign in the coming months in the field of sports, culture, healthcare. I am very happy about that", said Bartolo.

The Foreign Ministers of Russia and Malta discussed international affairs in Sochi and spoke about relations between Russia and the European Union. The parties agreed to continue the dialogue between the foreign ministries.
