The State Duma in the third reading adopted a law on the development of rural tourism in the Russian Federation. This was reported on the official website of the department.
The amendments made to the law «The Basics of Tourism Activities in the Russian Federation" imply that the definition of "rural tourism" is now officially recognized.
This concept will be applicable to tourist sites in rural areas and in small towns with a population of up to 30 thousand inhabitants.
According to Viktor Knyazev, First Deputy Head of the United Russia faction, agrarians will have "the opportunity to provide services for the temporary accommodation of tourists, organizing their leisure time, excursions and other types of recreation."
"This will expand the sources of income for our farmers, reduce their dependence on seasonal work. Citizens get the opportunity to enjoy comfortable and educational outdoor recreation, acquaintance with the historical and cultural heritage and folk crafts. For villages and small towns, this is a new source of tax income, additional jobs, development infrastructure,” he said.
Agrarian or rural tourism should be understood as a type of tourism that involves visiting rural areas for the purpose of recreation and familiarization with the activities of agricultural producers or participation in agricultural work without deriving material benefits, as well as the provision of services by agricultural producers for temporary accommodation, food, leisure and excursion and other services.
