More than 2.2 million tourists visited Cuba in 2022, which is almost 400% more than in the previous year, the Cuban statistical office ONEI reported.

According to it, 1.6 million of the total number of travelers were foreigners, which is 452% higher than in 2021.

The largest contingent of international travelers were Canadians – 532.000 people.

Cuba, which has a population of 11.1 million people, attaches paramount importance to tourism. It is a source of foreign currency, which allows to revive the national economy, which has suffered greatly from inflation, the effects of the pandemic and the tightening of US sanctions against Cuba.

Initially, the Cuban government expected to receive 2.5 million tourists in the country in 2022, but in October revised this target downward to 1.7 million.

In the pre-pandemic 2019, the largest island of the Caribbean was visited by more than 4.2 million tourists, who brought 2.6 billion US dollars to the state treasury.
