The director of the Kronotsky nature reserve in Kamchatka, Pyotr Shpilenok, spoke about the increase in tourist flow to the reserve, according to Lenta.ru.
In his opinion, a large influx of tourists to the Valley will create discomfort for the travelers themselves.
He believes that “a person should not just see geysers, he should contemplate, feel his energy, learn enough about them to fall in love with them and realize the responsibility for the natural heritage of the country”.
As a benchmark for ecological tourism, the reserve now meets international standards for responsible management. Thus, the Valley provides a modern infrastructure, there are qualified guides, and the tourist flow is strictly regulated.
Earlier it was reported that Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin instructed Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko to deal with the development of the tourism potential of the Valley of Geysers following Chernyshenko's statement that mass tourism in the reserve should not be allowed, as tourists may "trample everything there." In response, Putin said that with proper organization, it is possible to organize free visits to the reserve by tourists.
