The press service of Mospriroda announced the launch of an environmental campaign to account for nightingales. From May 15 to June 30, everyone will be able to go to the natural areas of Moscow and make their own reports. They should include information about the date, time and place of observations of birds, the route of the observer, and the number of birds. You can also attach an audio or video recording to the report.
Mospriroda specialists will also hold a number of environmental education events that will allow citizens to learn to recognize nightingales by their voices. Ornithologists will also tell you about what nightingales look like, where they live, how they build their nests and what they eat.
Nightingales are indicators of the state of the environment and green spaces of the city. Data on their numbers help ornithologists to track which natural areas of Moscow they most often choose to live in. Based on the results of the count, an interactive map of the habitats of these birds will be updated.
This species of birds is included in the so-called Supervisory List of the Red Book and needs constant control and observation on the territory of Moscow. Last year, 360 feathered singers were counted in the capital. Of these, 153 were recorded in natural areas and 207 in courtyards and city parks.
