Pribaikalsky National Park to be cleared of nine unauthorized dumps by the end of the year

According to the message on the website of the Ministry of Natural Resources, one of the most pressing issues is the reduction of the area of ​​polluted territories that affect Baikal. To date, draft documentation for a number of objects of accumulated harm is under development.

The head of the project office of the federal project "Preservation of Lake Baikal" Maxim Stafeev said at the expert session that by the end of this year several landfills in this zone will be eliminated at once.

“By the end of 2022, the territory of the Pribaikalsky National Park will be cleared of nine unauthorized dumps in the Central Ecological Zone of the Baikal Natural Territory with a total area of ​​16.216 hectares. In addition, by the end of the year it is planned to begin work on the elimination of a landfill in the Tunkinskaya Valley with an area of ​​15.9 hectares,” he said.

In addition, the expert session discussed the need for citizens to be involved in the environmental agenda at Baikal and the topic of professional training for employees of the reserve system.
