The press service of the Norilsk Nickel company announced the first results of the Sulfur Program launched last year. Sulfur dioxide emissions from the Nadezhdinsky Metallurgical Plant (NMZ) are gradually decreasing.
Since its launch in October last year and until the end of March this year, more than 40 thousand tons of sulfur dioxide from exhaust gases have been disposed of at NMZ. These indicators were verified by Rosprirodnadzor. The State Center for Laboratory Analysis and Technical Measurements in the Siberian Federal District confirmed their reliability and high efficiency of the first technological line at the level of 99.6%.
Stanislav Seleznev, Vice President for Ecology and Industrial Safety at Norilsk Nickel, said that the achieved indicators show the positive dynamics of the first technological line of the Sulfur program at NMZ and the company's systematic movement towards improving the environmental situation.
"The results obtained correspond to the design indicators. According to the plan, emissions in Norilsk will be reduced by 20% this year. This will solve the main task of the federal Clean Air program, which is aimed at radically improving the air in 12 large industrial cities, including Norilsk," he said.
NMZ now faces the task of launching the second and third technological lines of the Sulfur Program into comprehensive testing by the end of the year. In total, the project now involves almost 400 employees of the enterprise itself and more than 1,500 specialists from contracting organizations.
