Strengthening the material and technical base of reserves, joint environmental educational programs, support for volunteer programs - this is not the whole list of areas in which big business can work in partnership with the state in the field of conservation of reserves and protected areas in Russia. This was discussed at the round table "Development of specially protected natural areas and the role of CSR in sustainable development and preservation of the unique nature of the Far East", which took place on the first day of the EEF.
Opening the round table, Sergei Ivanov, special envoy of the President of the Russian Federation for environmental protection, ecology and transport, noted that the state faces many challenges in the field of ecology, including those related to the obvious threats of climate change. The participants discussed the role of big business in the development of reserves.
Norilsk Nickel announced that it could become a reliable partner to the state in this area. “We believe that PPP in the development of protected areas in the Arctic is the only effective way. And we, for our part, are ready to be reliable partners for the state,” said the vice-president of the company Andrey Grachev. It is now difficult for nature reserves to survive without business support, Grachev said.
Nornickel actively cooperates with nature reserves in the scientific field. Thus, in the Laplandsky Nature Reserve in the Murmansk Region, at the request of the company, environmental monitoring is carried out, and the restoration of green spaces near the production sites of the Kola MMC is carried out. A unique example of cooperation is the visit center in the Pasvik reserve, which was built with the active support of Norilsk Nickel. In Taimyr, the company supports projects aimed at environmental education.
Together with the Taimyr Nature Reserve, the company will equip the shore of Lake Lama, where a visit center is also being created. In the Trans-Baikal Territory, Norilsk Nickel supports the nature reserve "Relic Oaks". The company recently supported and became a member of the All-Russian project "Clean Arctic".
