The press service of the administration of St. Petersburg announced the creation of a new interregional Arctic tourist route "Patron Saints of the Arctic". It will connect St. Petersburg, the Leningrad Region and the Republic of Karelia.
The basis of the route will be a visit to Orthodox shrines historically and thematically connected with the regions of the Arctic zone of Russia. Emphasis will also be placed on the personalities of missionaries related to St.‑St. Petersburg and the Arctic.
The journey begins in the city on the Neva River, where tourists will be able to see St.‑The St. Petersburg Metochion of the Transfiguration of the Valaam Monastery, the Kronstadt Sea and St. Nicholas Epiphany Cathedrals, as well as the St. John's Monastery. In the Leningrad region, it is planned to stop at the Holy Trinity Alexander Svirsky Monastery, after which the travelers will go to Karelia.
Tourists will be able to visit Petrozavodsk, Sortavala, the villages of Tipinitsy, Rautalakhti and Tolvuya, where they will see the complex "Northern Thebaid" on the shore of Lake Ladoga and replicas of northern temples. Travelers will get acquainted with the life story of one of the founders of the Solovetsky Monastery, Zosima Solovetsky.
Depending on the time of year or weather conditions, the key point of the route will be a visit to the Kizhi Museum-Reserve or the Transfiguration of the Valaam Stavropol Monastery.
