Along with nature reserves and natural parks in the Amur Region, a new type of specially protected areas will appear - natural complexes. The relevant law was adopted after the second reading, said the press service of the regional legislative assembly of the Amur region. Municipalities will decide on which lands to prohibit a particular economic activity.

The move was initiated by local residents. Activists and environmentalists consider it necessary to protect natural "tidbits" from potential raiders, businessmen who want new farmland or future sawmills and deforestation sites instead of forests.

“Thus, the deputies at the legislative level consolidated the repeated requests of local authorities to keep the green belt around the villages from plowing, felling and other interventions,” explained the chairman of the agrarian committee Irina Kievskaya.

To date, the list of special protected natural areas of the Amur Region consists of 89 objects. Among them there are 31 nature reserves, 56 natural monuments, the Bureisky Nature Park and the Aldikon Wetland.
