Currently, scientists are summing up the results of the research expedition of the Taimyr Reserves "Pyasina-2022".
Accounting for the Taimyr population of the musk ox was carried out mainly in specially protected natural areas adjacent to them. At the same time, the researchers used amphibious aircraft and a single-engine Sterkh aircraft.
As a result of monitoring, scientists managed to find out that musk oxen were practically not found in the western part of Taimyr, and only single individuals and small herds were noted in the central part. A high population density of musk oxen was recorded in the eastern part of Taimyr. These animals were found here everywhere in groups with an average number of 14-17 individuals. However, no large concentrations of musk oxen were encountered during the expedition. The most numerous herd consisted of 29 individuals.
Currently, scientists are determining the total number of musk oxen, their sex and age structure and herding in the surveyed area. In addition, meteorological parameters are processed for the last 50 years in order to assess the impact of climate change on the habitats of the musk ox.
Scientists will also study the nutrition of animals and their parasite fauna.
