In October, the mating season begins for male European fallow deer in the enclosure complex “Fallow Fallow House” of Mospriroda. At this time, their behavior changes: they roar, make hoarse, abrupt sounds, and dig holes in the ground. According to experts, the “outfits” of fallow deer will also soon change - for winter camouflage they will put on a dark brown coat with an ash-gray bottom instead of a summer coat that is reddish-brown with spots.

“During this period, two males Yashka and Dzyuba will begin to “court” the female doe Masha, Dasha, Glasha and Messi. In total, 12 individuals live in the “House of Fallow Deer”: in addition to adults, you can see here 3 one-year-old males and 3 babies born this summer,” says a message on the Mospriroda website.

Previously, the Fallow Fallow House was closed when the rut began, but two years ago an additional fence appeared on the observation deck of the enclosure complex. Now the complex will be temporarily closed only when necessary, depending on the behavior of the males.

“Mospriroda specialists warn: visitors to the enclosure complex should not forget that in the fall they need to be especially careful with male fallow deer. The basic rule: do not come close or try to enter the territory where animals are kept. Fallow deer can mistake a person for a rival and hit them hard with their horns,” the report says.

However, according to experts, the fallow deer are still waiting for guests - everyone is invited to visit the enclosure complex and admire the friendly deer family.

“But it is worth remembering to treat animals with care: do not disturb the inhabitants of the enclosures, do not shout or make noise, then the fallow deer will not be afraid of the presence of inquisitive guests and visiting the enclosure complex will become a real holiday,” Mospriroda emphasized.

Suitable as gifts for fallow deer. apples, carrots, chestnuts, acorns and hazelnuts (autumn and winter).

“Brought treats must be placed in a special box located at the entrance to the enclosure complex. Mospriroda specialists will prepare goodies and treat them to the fallow deer as a supplement to the main diet,” the message says.

In addition, from October 1 to October 15, the “Forest Gifts” campaign will be held to collect acorns, nuts and chestnut fruits for the main inhabitants of the “Doe House” of Mospriroda.

This enclosure complex is located on the territory of the Zelenogradsky reserve on an area of 1.2 hectares. In addition to fallow deer, in the warm season, pheasants, domestic chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, musk ducks and rabbits live here.

“Now these animals have already left for “winter apartments”, where they will live in warmth and comfort until spring,” said Mospriroda.
