Mongolia, named the best travel destination for 2024 by international publishing company Lonely Planet, has launched a new campaign to attract tourists.
The country's authorities hope to attract those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life with the promise of tranquil, slow-paced landscapes, reindeer sledding, and camel racing.
Like many other countries, Mongolia's tourism industry was devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the country is now looking to make up for lost time by promoting its "Welcome to Mongolia" campaign. The number of flights to the country has increased, visa procedures have been simplified, and visa-free entry has been introduced for a number of countries.
The Mongolian government has also declared 2023-2025 as the "Years of Visiting Mongolia". According to the country's Ministry of Culture, the gradual liberalization of air transport, the promotion of digital technologies in tourism, adherence to tourism standards, and the promotion of Mongolia internationally have yielded positive results.
Tourists in Mongolia can listen to traditional folk music, try national dishes such as buuz, attend the Naadam festival, and experience the spirit of freedom while horseback riding. One of the recommended destinations for travel is the Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the first seven months of this year, Mongolia was visited by 437 thousand foreign tourists, which is 25% more than in the same period last year, including a growing number of tourists from Europe, the USA, and Japan. The number of tourists from South Korea has doubled.
