The Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev prematurely ceased the authority of the «Russian Environmental Operator» CEO, Denis Butsaev. The corresponding document is published on the website of the Russian government.
The company, which coordinates the work of all regional operators as part of the “garbage management reform,” was created in mid-January. It organizes financing of waste management projects, provides guarantees to investment projects etc.
Earlier this month, Dmitry Medvedev also dismissed Vladimir Loginov, deputy Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment of the Russian Federation. He was in charge of monitoring and coordinating the work of the Department of State Policy and Environmental Protection Regulation and Ecological Safety. He was called the curator of the garbage management reform.
The garbage management reform was launched in Russia in early 2019. It aims at transitioning to a new system for the disposal of household waste. As part of it, the regions should adopt waste management schemes on a local level, as well as hold tenders and select an operator for the removal and processing of waste.
