It is planned to create a marine specially protected natural area (SPNT) in Kamchatka. The regional authorities contacted the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation with a proposal to create a new protected area. This was reported by the TASS agency citing the head of the region, Vladimir Solodov, who spoke during a round table at the Public Chamber on Wednesday.

In addition, the regional government is also considering the creation of protected areas in the area of Lake Nachikinskoye to protect one of the largest spawning grounds for salmon. The Governor explained that work in this direction is already underway.

According to Solodov, "now a justification, ecological expertise and collection of documents are underway to create such a marine specially protected natural area».

Potential sites for the creation of marine protected areas are Russkaya Bay and Morzhovaya Bay. The creation of a marine protected area, according to Solodov, will help preserve the marine fauna and give an impetus to the development of water tourism.

At the same time, the regional governor stressed that the entire infrastructure will be built outside the protected areas.
