Malaysia Airlines introduces carbon offsetting programmes by partnering CHOOOSE, a Norwegian climate tech company. This step is to provide passengers with a clear understanding of the carbon emissions of their flights and address these emissions through verified carbon offsetting projects.
Group chief sustainability officer of Malaysian Aviation Group, Philip See, said, "We recognise the importance of our role in creating a sustainable future for the aviation industry, and we are committed to not just reducing our carbon footprint but rallying participation from our customers to be part of this significant journey, towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
Andreas Slettvoll, the CEO and founder of CHOOOSE, acknowledged the increasing demand for transparency from customers regarding carbon emissions. He believes that partnerships like this one are vital in achieving industry-wide change with sustainable travel options.
By embedding CHOOOSE's software solution directly into the booking process, Malaysia Airlines passengers can now see the CO2 impact of their flights and take steps to offset their carbon footprint by purchasing verified carbon offsets in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The move is a part of the Malaysia Aviation Group's Sustainability Blueprint, which is committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
