The authorities of the Spanish island of Majorca decided to limit from 2022 the number of cruise liners that are allowed to anchor in the port of Palma de Mallorca.
Starting from the New year, only three vessels will be allowed to make a stop at the port for one day, including one megaliner with more than 5,000 passengers on board.
According to the regional government of the Balearic Islands, a total of 518 cruise ships carrying at least 500 passengers will be able to dock at the port of Palma de Mallorca over the next five years.
In the pre-pandemic 2019, Majorca received about 600 cruise liners.
Residents of Palma de Mallorca have long complained that the massive influx of tourists traveling on cruise liners disrupts their daily lives.
However, tour operators, taxi drivers and restaurateurs, for their part, hold the opposite point of view, stating that the archipelago needs cruise liners and their passengers.
