London Heathrow, one of the busiest airports in Europe, has asked airlines to limit ticket sales for this summer in order to maintain the number of passengers at an adequate level.
As more and more countries lift restrictions and the number of passengers steadily increases, airports around the world have plunged into chaos due to delays or cancellations of flights, as well as problems with baggage loading.
According to Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kay, in the period from July 12 to September 11, the number of passengers departing from the airport daily will be limited to 100,000 people.
Holland-Kay acknowledged at the same time that some flights will be postponed to another day, to another airport or completely canceled.
According to the flight tracking platform FlightAware, about 22,000 flights were delayed worldwide on July 11. Among European airlines the most affected by flight delays were Air France (53%), EasyJet (44%), Lufthansa (42%) and British Airways (37%).
