For the first time Lisbon was chosen as the best business tourism destination in Europe following the results of the fourth annual World MICE Awards competition, which ended in Berlin.
The Portuguese capital hosted a total of 2,251 events in 2023, bringing together over 592,000 participants from all over the world.
Due to its privileged geographical location, modern and versatile infrastructure, as well as cultural attractions, Lisbon has become a popular destination in Europe for business events.
The MICE sector (corporate meetings, team building and motivational tours for employees, business conferences, congresses, forums and seminars, as well as off-site corporate events) plays an important role in the economy of Lisbon.
In 2022-2023, the Lisbon Tourism Authority allocated more than one million euros to attract international business, corporate and social events to the Portuguese capital.
"Lisbon is distinguished not only by its uniqueness, but also by the professionalism of its enterprises, the quality of its hotels, accessibility, organizational experience, a variety of cultural offerings and an exceptional variety of experiences offered," says Paula Oliveira, Executive Director of the Lisbon Tourism Bureau.
The World MICE Awards are awarded annually to the best destinations, airlines, hotels, organizers and infrastructure facilities.
