The reserve calls on the inhabitants of Kamchatka to make nature cleaner. The garbage collection will be held on the banks of the Srednyaya Lagernaya Bay in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on November 2. The event will mark the 85th anniversary of the nature reserve.

“Kamchatka nature is beautiful and unique, and it is necessary to protect it not only by creating conservation areas but also near the settlements, which can be easily reached by car or on foot. With the increasing influence of man on nature it is especially important to focus public attention on the need to preserve the environment, to involve people in active work to solve environmental problems.

Everyone, even a child, can make a contribution by simply removing garbage and making nature cleaner. I think that it is the voluntary participation of Kamchatka residents in community work that shows their environmental responsibility and makes an example for fellow countrymen,” said Peter Shpilenok, director of the Kronotsky Reserve.

Launching such events the reserve seeks to attract new like-minded people to protect nature, to talk about the harm the garbage does to animals, especially to the inhabitants of the sea. The initiative is carried out jointly with the volunteer group "Clean Kamchatka". Both young and older generations are going to participate in the clean-up.

Kronotsky Reserve was established on November 1, 1934. The nature reserve is located in the eastern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The total area of the reserve is 1,147,619.37 hectares, the sea area is 135,000 hectares, and the length of the sea border is 243 km. Since 1985, the reserve has been included in the international network of biosphere reserves, and in 1996 the unique natural territory was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage List in the category “Kamchatka Volcanoes”.
