The Komandorskie Islands National Park, located in the Kamchatka Territory, invites volunteers to work on Bering Island during the season from June to October.

“Volunteers are needed to help employees of the departments of science, tourism and protection, as well as for the improvement and development of tourist facilities and infrastructure,” the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources said on its website.

This natural area was transformed into a national park a year ago. Prior to that, it had the status of a state reserve, which in 2002 was included in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves as part of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere program.

Reserve "Komandorsky" was established 30 years ago - April 23, 1993 to protect and study the natural complexes of the Commander archipelago, located in the waters of the Bering Sea and the Pacific Ocean.

There are huge rookeries of marine mammals (northern sea lion - sea lion, northern fur seal, anthur, spotted seal, sea otter and others). In total, there are about 70 haulouts of true seals and four large rookeries of eared seals on the islands. All 10 species of pinnipeds living in the North Pacific Ocean are registered on the sea beaches of the islands, the ministry said.

“The Commander Islands are famous for their bird markets, as well as the largest rookeries of marine mammals: sea lions, northern fur seals and anturs. Preserving this unique natural heritage is our most important task,” said Alexander Kozlov, head of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, whose words are quoted in the message.

173 species of fish are registered in the protected area, seven of which are listed in the Red Book of Russia and the Red Book of the Kamchatka Territory.

Unique objects of flora and fauna are objects of close study of scientists.
