The Italian government promises to finance the construction of the Venetian dam. President of Veneto Luca Zaia announced this following a meeting in the Palazzo Chigi with the participation of the country's Prime Minister.

According to him, “confirmation has been given on financing the construction of the Venetian dam, the total cost of which is 5,493 bn euros, which means that this time the government is determined to bring the matter to an end. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced a figure of 320 million euros, which will be allocated from the emergency fund and will allow you to shift the schedule for December 31, 2021.’’

The project, called MOSE (the abbreviation of the Italian Modulo Sperimentale Elettromeccanico - "Experimental Electromechanical Module") to protect Venice from constant floods, is being developed. It consists in the creation of continuous rows of 78 mobile (folding) barrier elements installed at the Lido, Malamocco and Chioggia inlets connecting the Venetian lagoon with the Adriatic Sea.

In early November this year, Venice was burdened by the flooding disaster. What is happening in Venice, according to scientists, confirms that Italy is at the zenith of the climate crisis.

“Due to its geographical position in the center of the Mediterranean Sea, Italy found itself in such a “hot spot” where climate change is felt especially accutely,” says the head of the natural modelling laboratory of the National Agency for Innovative Technologies Gianmaria Sannino. ‘‘The level of the Mediterranean rises faster than in the ocean, and it heats up much faster. This releases a huge amount of energy, which causes such extreme phenomena.’’
