The summer tourist season in St. Petersburg will officially start on April 29. One of the key events of the first days will be the traditional Icebreaker Festival, which will take place on the Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment. This was announced by the official city tourist portal Visit Petersburg.

“This year, when the city on the Neva celebrates its 320th anniversary, the range of events is especially rich. It is no coincidence that the brightest event, the Icebreaker Festival, has become a symbol of the beginning of the tourist season,” said Sergey Korneev, head of the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg, quoted by the portal.

For three days, the famous icebreakers Vladivostok, Kapitan Zarubin and Kapitan Sorokin will be moored on the Lieutenant Schmidt embankment, which can be visited with excursions. The icebreaker-museum Krasin, a legend in the exploration of the Arctic Ocean, will become a platform for special events.

On the first day of the festival, April 29, the start of the motorcycle season will be solemnly announced on Palace Square. To commemorate this, hundreds of bikers will ride through the city center, according to Visit Petersburg.

“The day will end with a spectacular regatta near the Blagoveshchensky Bridge: at 18:00, snow-white ships under sail will sail along the wide expanse of the Neva,” the portal notes.

The next day, a new tradition of the Northern capital will be resumed - the Imperial Noon. During the entire tourist season, every Sunday at 12:00 the window of the Chapel facing the Palace Square will swing open, and the musicians who have appeared in it will give a small concert. The tradition continues the history of public musical events in the city, which goes back to the time of Peter the Great.

As the portal notes, on April 30, “the water area of the Neva will turn into a real stage, on which the audience will see the waltz of tugboats – the legendary dance of self-propelled ships, which has already become the hallmark of the festival.”

The space of the Icebreaker Festival will be open for free visiting from April 29 to May 1.

The festival will host thematic exhibitions and master classes for children and adults, autograph sessions with writers.
