Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the regional governor of Central Macedonia in Greece, has been confirmed as the European Union's commissioner for transport and tourism.
The country's Prime Minister stated that "the nomination of Tzitzikostas highlights the geopolitical importance and strategic position of Greece as a gateway for trade, energy, and connections in the Mediterranean."
The Prime Minister also expressed satisfaction that Greece was given a portfolio in the tourism sector. He argued that the country "is a pioneer in sustainable tourism and can contribute proposals and initiatives to achieve the goal of sustainable tourism and improve infrastructure."
Kostas Kadis, a representative of Cyprus, has been nominated as the candidate for the post of European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans. "Cyprus is getting an important portfolio, which has a huge scope for action," said Kostas Kadis. He also announced that the development and agreement of the European Ocean Pact will be a key focus of his work.
Kostas Kadis is a candidate for this position because he has been involved in environmental issues and biodiversity conservation for many years. If he is appointed as commissioner for fisheries and oceans, Cyprus will receive a portfolio with a large volume of work and a huge budget.
